Job Title: Tax and Accounting Clerk

Reports To: Accounting Manager
Compensation: $18-$20 hourly


Job Summary:
The Tax and Accounting Clerk will provide administrative and clerical support to the accounting and tax compliance team. This role is ideal for someone starting their career in accounting or finance, who is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn. The Tax Clerk will assist with maintaining records, processing transactions, and supporting tax-related filings and audits under close supervision.  In addition, they will provide support within multiple areas of the accounting department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with data entry into accounting and tax systems.
  • Organize and maintain accurate financial and tax records.
  • Support invoice processing and ensure proper documentation.
  • Help reconcile accounts and prepare reports for review.
  • File and manage  sales tax, tax filings, payroll tax and corporate tax.
  • Assist with compliance tasks
  • Manage inbound communications from various tax authorities, summarize and communicate the details of the notices, including any action items, to the Accounting Manager.
  • Help maintain exemption certificates and customer records in Avalara or similar systems.
  • Track and upload customer exemption forms; support quarterly audits.
  • Respond to basic inquiries and notices from tax authorities under supervision.
  • Help prepare documents for internal and external audits.
  • Support registration efforts for state and local tax accounts.
  • Perform general office and administrative duties as needed.
  • Ad hoc or special requests to assist the team and accounting manager.

Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic understanding of accounting or finance principles (through education or experience).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
  • Familiarity with accounting or tax software (e.g., NetSuite, Avalara) is a plus.
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in a professional environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • Associates degree or coursework in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–2 years of experience in an accounting or office support role.
  • Exposure to tax compliance or bookkeeping is a plus, but not required.
